Mallorca is the place to be and it offers unbeatable safety and hygiene controls exceeding most of it´s European neighbours. It also offers unbeatable medical care if you fall sick while on holiday, unbeatable connections to the rest of Europe and unbeatable safety for holiday makers. Mallorca is a united community that has invested a wealth of hard work and money into the tourism industry, offering the best of things to do and see for every budget and every age.

But realistically all of the above does cost money to put in place and so the final product presented to you is at a higher cost compared to new “younger” destinations. They may well be cheaper, but they will not be as well prepared and as geared up to giving tourists the best possible experience as Majorca does.

Although it has many well priced hotels which offer great value for money Majorca is not a back packers destination, as you rarely, if ever come across that sort of accommodation. As it turns out Mallorca is a second home to many rich and famous from around the globe and it is also home to many ex-pats. The cost of living is certainly not cheap, but the high quality of life that it has to offer continues to attract people.

Remember, Majorca has enjoyed 50 strong years within the tourism sector and it is no stranger to the industry. It is set to enjoy many more due to it being within a 2 hour flight from most other European countries and for it´s fabulous beaches, great climate, choice of hotels and facilities.

Palma has a bustling nightlife with an option for everyone. The Mediterranean summer keeps things warm to the point where it is very comfortable to go out at night. It should be noted that the Spanish work on a slightly different schedule to the point where meals are served around ten in the evening and a more party orientated night may not start until midnight and go on to the wee hours of the morning.

A great time for a night out is the weekly night on the town events every Thursday in Palma. On these day’s many shops, restaurants and bars extend their opening hours to midnight. This event is called Thursday night fever and at the time of writing is into its third year.

In an effort to promote local culture many museums, galleries and tourist attractions have followed suit including Palma Cathedral (which is absolutely stunning when lit up at night). The Thursday night fever events have given rise to many outdoor events such as jazz concerts and operas performed on a stage that rises out of the lake next to the cathedral.

For a good meal and good experience La Lonja, a series of alleyways that have a strong feel of old town Palma, is a fun place to visit. These alleys are a haven for those looking for traditional Spanish food as they are swarming with brilliant tapas restaurants and wine bars. The streets are areas of great architectural beauty and if you take a moment to look you may find some hidden treasures.

A great example of this is a bar called Abacos, this bar is hidden in a converted luxury house and is decorated with unbelievably beautiful classical art and fresh fruit in abundance. So do have a look you never know what wonders you may stumble across.

The clubs on the Paseo Maritimo in Palma are worth a visit. Some of the clubs can actually boast to being world famous such as Abraxas and Tito’s. If you are looking to splash out for the night you may consider booking a VIP table. There is of course a cost, however this is more than alleviated by the celebrity treatment you receive.

Sometimes the best nightlife can be out on the streets themselves, Palma like a lot of Spanish cities has a lot of festivals and the ones celebrated in the evening can be an unforgettable experience. The San Sebastian Correfoc is as well as a cultural institution a intense experience with a large slew of fireworks, costumed revellers, music and a chase through the streets with people dressed up as pitchfork wielding devils. Other night time festivals may have a more traditional street party often with a live DJ and other such treats.

Palma also has a bustling scene for live performances. Everything from Catalonian opera to stand up comedy is available in one of Palma’s many theatres. Be sure to check the event guide before you go to see if there is anything that interests you showing. The biggest of the theatres is probably the Palma Auditorium on the Paseo Maritimo. This theatre seems to have had everything at some time or another.

Palma is a city that comes alive at night and has a lot to enjoy. There should be something to suit all tastes and means within Palma, whether you are looking to enjoy a candlelit dinner or dance the night away. Palma is a thing of beauty and it only gets better with the addition of the city lights.
